AA plane traveling from Charlotte to Virginia turns back due to possible mechanical issue

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An American Airlines plane traveling from Charlotte to Virginia had to turn back to the Queen City Wednesday due to a possible mechanical issue.

According to American Airlines, AA Flight 5803 took off from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) just before 2 p.m. on its way to Charlottesville-Albemarle (CHO).

FlightAware reports once in Virginia, the E145 plane turned back around to land back at CLT airport. The total time of the flight was roughly two hours.

American Airlines stated the flight returned to Charlotte due to a ‘possible mechanical issue’ and would not elaborate further. The plane landed safely Wednesday without incident, they said.

The plane in question will be taken out of service and inspected.

Passengers on Flight 5803 will be transferred to another plane to take them to CHO, AA said.
