Tractor-trailer spills 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto Interstate 85 in Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An accident along Interstate 85 in Gastonia resulted in a large fuel spill, causing significant delays in the area.

Gaston County Communications said they got a service call for a ‘saddle tank rupture’ on I-85 northbound between Exits 19 and 21.

Gaston County officials told Queen City News that a tractor-trailer hit debris in the road, which caused a hole in the tank and a leak of about 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto the interstate.

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

The Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services is assisting the Gastonia Fire Department at the scene. An environmental cleanup company is conducting a cleanup, which will result in the closure of the right lane for the next several hours.

N.C. Department of Transportation officials said the road should clear by 3:30 p.m.
