83-year-old arrested on public indecency charges in Beaverton Target incident

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An 83-year-old man was arrested for public indecency after police say he was seen “in a state of self-gratification” in a Beaverton Target.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the store, located at 10775 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Highway, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday after a Target employee reported the incident.

The man, later identified as Gary Caughey, left the scene before police arrived, but officials said an employee managed to catch his vehicle’s license plate as he was driving away.

Authorities said Caughey was found and arrested at his home on Sunday. He now faces a public indecency charge.

Officials shared they are trying to identify a few specific people with children who may have witnessed the incident:

  • An adult woman who was shopping with two children. One child had long brown hair and was wearing yellow pants, purple Crocs and a red Letterman-style jacket. The other child was younger with long brown hair and was wearing a yellow short-sleeved shirt, light blue pants and white shoes. The woman had long brown hair and was wearing a blue jacket and blue leggings.

  • An adult man who was shopping with two children. One child had long red hair and was wearing a light brown T-shirt with the word “Wild” in white lettering, blue jeans and was carrying a bag belt. The other child had light brown and blonde hair and was wearing a green sweatshirt, blue jeans and a belt bag. The man was wearing a grey sweatshirt and blue jeans.
