80-year-old man charged in sexual assault of girl in Hampton Inn elevator in Dumfries

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Police said an 80-year-old man was in custody in North Carolina Thursday, accused in the sexual assault of a girl that took place in March.

The Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD) said Dennis James Schettino of Calabash, N.C. faces a charge of aggravated sexual battery.

Investigators said a girl, who is younger than the age of 15, was at the Hampton Inn, located at 16959 Old Stage Rd in the Dumfries area, on March 31. She told a family member that a man whom she didn’t know sexually assaulted her inside an elevator. The family member contacted police.

Investigators said they were able to identify 80-year-old Schettino as the man who was in the elevator. They obtained a warrant for his arrest, and Schettino was taken into custody in Brunswick County, N.C. on Thursday (April 11). As of that date, he was awaiting extradition to Prince William County.
