8 On Your Side blood drive: How you can donate blood ahead of Memorial Day weekend

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — News Channel 8 has partnered with OneBlood and Culvers to make it easy for you to donate blood ahead of Memorial Day weekend.

There’s always a need for donors, but we are offering some extra perks this time around to roll up your sleeve and give blood.

You’ll receive a wellness check that includes an iron count, blood pressure and cholesterol screening. Those who donate will also receive a water bottle, a $20 e-gift card and a free pint of Culver’s custard.

The Big Red Bus will be parked in WFLA’s guest parking lot on South Parker Street from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.

If you’re not near the station, no problem! You can donate at more than a dozen Culver’s locations throughout the area.

Having blood on hand at hospitals during an emergency can mean the difference between life and death for some patients, that’s why it’s so important to give if you’re able.

Generally, healthy people age 16 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds can donate blood. A photo ID is required.

Walkups are welcome, however you may experience a short wait. Donation times vary per location.
