TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was arrested Sunday night after causing a crash in Tampa that sent both drivers to the hospital, according to the Hillsborough County Sherriff’s Office (HCSO).

Deputies responded to a crash at 9:25 p.m. near Columbus Drive and Regional Water Lane.

The sheriff’s office said Linton Robertson, 73, was drunk when he drove the wrong way and collided with another car head-on. Both drivers were transported to Tampa General Hospital with injuries.

Robertson showed signs of impairment at the hospital, according to HCSO. He’s previously been charged with DUI multiple times.

He hasn’t been charged with DUI in Sunday’s incident. The sheriff’s office is waiting for a sample of his blood to be analyzed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

“There is no excuse for driving under the influence and putting others’ lives at risk,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “The consequences of impaired driving can be life-altering, and we will not tolerate anyone who threatens the safety of our residents.”

HCSO reported arresting 31 more DUI drivers that weekend.
