71-year-old Taylor County man dies Sunday in farming accident

JUMP RIVER −A 71-year-old man is dead following a farming accident Sunday afternoon about 40 miles northwest of Medford.

Myron F. Brooks of Gilman was pulling a manure spreader behind his tractor. He was heading south in a field on his way to help a neighbor, according to the Taylor County Sheriff's Office. The neighbor went to look for Brooks because he had not arrived and found him unresponsive and trapped underneath the manure spreader. Tracks in the field indicate Brooks turned around for an unknown reason and headed back north before hitting a power pole, according to the Sheriff's Office. Brooks then fell from the tractor and was trapped under the manure spreader.

The neighbor called 911 at 1:43 p.m. Sunday. Brooks was near N8869 State 73 in the Taylor County town of Jump River. Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The cause of the accident its undetermined, but officers believe Brooks may have suffered a medical emergency causing him to lose control of his tractor, which resulted in hitting the utility pole and falling from the tractor.
