7 trucks taken out of service during commercial vehicle safety detail in Berks

Apr. 23—Seven trucks and two drivers were taken out of service during a commercial vehicle safety detail conducted last week at the Route 183/222 interchange in Bern Township, police said.

The detail was conducted from 7 a.m. to noon on April 16 by Bern Township police along with 12 officers from state police and the following police departments: Exeter Township, Cumru Township, Hamburg, Fleetwood, Northern Berks, Eastern Berks and Wyomissing.

In addition to the trucks and drivers removed from service for serious safety violations, these statistics were released Tuesday by Bern Township police:

—47 trucks inspected.

—67 violations documented.

—17 traffic citations issued.
