Michael Cohen Pleads Guilty to Violating Campaign Finance Law For Payments to Karen McDougal

Yesterday, Donald Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen entered a plea agreement with the US attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York. He agreed to plead guilty to a number of charges, including two counts of violating campaign finance law, one of which involved negotiating payment for Karen McDougal, a former Playboy Playmate who allegedly had an affair with President Trump.

McDougal was the subject of a February report in the New Yorker that alleged she had a nine-month-long affair with Donald Trump and sold her story to a tabloid company, though it was never published. (Trump has denied the affair through a White House spokesperson.)

In March, McDougal sued American Media to be released from a 2016 legal agreement with the tabloid publisher requiring her silence, and the new settlement agreement frees her from that contract.
