According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, the I-65 southbound rest area near Greenville will be closed for two years starting in May.

Officials said the closure will happen so the rest stop can be rebuilt. ALDOT shared in a release that the current rest stop structure will be demolished, and a new rest area will be built in the same location.

This construction will cost around $14 million and will bring additional stalls, urinals and family restrooms.

ALDOT said the northbound rest area will remain open during the construction. Plans are being finalized to replace the northbound rest area after the southbound stop is completed, according to the release.
