6-year-old cancer survivors get to be 'pilots for a day'
Two 6-year-old boys with leukemia earned their wings at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Nov. 17. Houston Pirrung and Jack Kirkbride, who became best friends while undergoing treatment at John Hopkins Hospital, together become “pilots for a day.” Their fun-filled adventure included personalized uniforms and a tour of the base, where they got to check out several planes. The boys were even given the rank of lieutenant general for the day. These battle buddies have proven that friendship is the perfect therapy. Houston, who was diagnosed with leukemia in July, is undergoing the maintenance part of his treatment. Jack, diagnosed in 2015, has currently started new medication.
