In Tennessee’s marquee Senate race between Republican Marsha Blackburn and Democrat Phil Bredesen, Blackburn has seized on the caravan to tout her support for stronger deterrents against illegal immigration. Republican Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler got a welcome boost in her tight race with Democrat Carolyn Long from an unexpected source, Democratic Rep. Joe Kennedy III. Though the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had targeted the contest in Washington’s Third District as one the party might flip in November, Kennedy didn’t seem to get the memo. Trick or treat? Florida Gov. Rick Scott, who trails incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson in their closely watched race for U.S. Senate, will spend Halloween campaigning with President Trump, a man he has all but avoided until this late hour. (Read more)

Floridians appear poised to restore voting rights to convicted felons, according to the latest poll on support for Amendment 4 taken by the University of North Florida. Sixty-nine percent of likely voters surveyed said they supported amending the state’s constitution to allow felons who have served their prison terms to vote in the state. For amendments to pass they must garner 60 percent support or more. (Read more)
In a move seen as designed to further gin up midterm support from the Republican base, President Trump has proposed rescinding the constitutional principle of birthright citizenship for some babies born in the U.S. (Read more)
