53-year-old hit by car, killed while crossing the street in Roswell

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – A 53-year-old Roswell man died Wednesday night when he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to walk across a street. According to the Roswell Police Department, Jimmy James Galvan was crossing South Sunset Avenue near West Hobbs Street when he was hit.

Galvan was transported to a nearby hospital but died about three hours later, according to police. Police say the car that hit him was going north on South Sunset. The 29-year-old male driver and his 23-year-old female passenger were not injured in the crash.

Death of Grant County 5-year-old still under investigation

Roswell police say the area where the crash occurred does not have streetlights, and Galvan was wearing darkly-colored clothing. The driver told police he did not see Galvan, and police say the investigation is ongoing.
