5 shot, 2 fatally, by 'disgruntled employee' inside Chester, Pa., linen business, DA says

Five people were shot, two fatally, by a "disgruntled employee" Wednesday morning inside a Chester, Pennsylvania, business, according to authorities there.

In a CBS Philadelphia broadcast, Jack Stollsteimer, district attorney in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, said a disgruntled worker walked into Delaware County Linen around 9 a.m. and shot the five people. Two of the victims were killed, and three people were rushed to Crozer-Chester Medical Center.

"I'm asking everybody in this region who is listening today to pray for them right now," Stollsteimer said at a press conference held near the business, located at 2626 W. Fourth St. "We are hopeful that they are able to survive."

At least one of the surviving victims is in critical condition. City of Chester Mayor Stefan Roots said at the press conference one of the victims was the man's supervisor.

The shooting suspect has been arrested, officials said.

Police shoot Delaware woman in Chester

Wednesday's incident is less than 2 miles from where 23-year-old Yazmyn Stewart, of Delaware, was shot dead by police last week following a chase that began in Wilmington and ended in a standoff near Chester's 12th and Kerlin streets.

Wilmington officers tried to arrest Stewart on May 14 in connection with a December shooting in the city, according to police. Stewart, however, drove off ramming several Wilmington police vehicles before fleeing onto I-95 north and into Pennsylvania.

She was followed by Wilmington police, as well as Delaware State Police.

After crossing into Pennsylvania, police said, Stewart crashed her vehicle and fired a gun at police. Two Delaware State Police troopers fired back during that exchange, though Stewart was able to gain access to another vehicle and drive into Chester, police said. That's where she crashed into a structure.

Following a home invasion, Stewart got into a third vehicle and tried to flee, police said. At that time, 10 officers fired at her. They included:

  • Three members of the Wilmington Police Department

  • Five members of the Delaware State Police

  • One member of the Trainer Borough, Pennsylvania, Police Department

  • One member of the Chester Police Department
