New 5-mile bike trail to open this week in Sacramento
(FOX40.COM) — A new bike and walking trail is set to open Thursday in Sacramento after years of planning.
The Del Rio Trail will stretch 5 miles from Riverside Boulevard and Freeport Boulevard, running parallel to Interstate 5.
According to the City of Sacramento, over 10,000 bikes and pedestrians are projected to use the new route in its first year.
The city said Councilmember Rick Jennings, Councilmember Mai Vang and Vice Mayor Caity Maple will attend the morning opening and will be “joined by partner agencies, city staff from multiple departments and community members.”
According to the city, the trail has been planned since 2017 and construction began in December 2022.
