5 Delano PD officers honored for saving 2 lives

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Five Delano police officers were honored Monday night for their quick actions and heroism in saving two lives.

On Jan. 6, the Delano Police Department said officers Valdovinos, Diaz, G. Escobedo and Corporal Perez responded to a call and found a lifeless man. They immediately performed CPR on Eddie Garcia until the EMTs and an ambulance arrived and transported him to the hospital.

On Feb. 4, Officer E. Escobedo arrived to the overcrossing of County Line Road to find a man in mental health crisis sitting on the ledge of the bridge over Highway 99. Escobedo attempted to get the man to a safer location, but when the man stood up and acted as if he was going to jump, the officer grabbed the man and pulled him to safety.

17 News asked Delano police for the full names of the officers who were honored, but they did not respond for this report.
