DeMarcus Liddell, 37, of Coal Valley, was sentenced to a total of up to 20 years after he earlier pleaded guilty to charges of voluntary manslaughter and second-degree robbery. Judge Henry Latham presided during the sentencing hearing, where several people came to support Liddell.

Kelly Cunningham, Scott County Attorney, said Liddell was the “lead co-conspirator” in the incident that led to the shooting death of 45-year-old Sylvester Eddings Jr., of Moline.

“I don’t trust anybody,” Liddell told the judge before the sentencing. “She (Cunningham) doesn’t know for sure what happened. I’m just a job to them. They don’t care how much time I get. I wasn’t even the shooter.”

“These are very serious charges,” Latham told Liddell. “A life was lost.” The charges, he said, will be served consecutively – one after the other.
