45-foot sailboat destroyed after catching fire behind Apollo Beach home

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews spent just over an hour battling a fire on land and water after a 45-foot sailboat caught flames in Apollo Beach Tuesday evening.

HCFR received several 911 calls around 4:46 p.m. for reports of a sailboat on fire that was docked behind a home at 926 Chipaway Drive.

When crews first arrived, they found the boat engulfed and began working to put out the blaze with extended hose lines. HCFR’s fire boat also responded to help fight the fire from the water.

According to HCFR, it took crews over an hour to fully extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
