4 hospitalized, woman jumps from window to escape, after Biloxi apartment fire

Two adults and two children were hospitalized early Friday morning after a fire tore through their Biloxi apartment, the Fire Department said.

All four victims escaped the fire on their own, but were suffering from burns, according to Capt. T.J. Hitt of the Biloxi Fire Department, which sent four engines, a ladder truck and all department chiefs to the scene at Southwind Apartments on Irish Hill Drive.

Damage to the unit and the building was extensive. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Biloxi Fire Department responded to the apartments about 4 a.m., Assistant Fire Chief Jason Davis said.

The fire damaged four units but only one was occupied, Davis said.

The second floor apartment was occupied by two adults and two children, he said. Three escaped the apartment through a door and a woman jumped from a bedroom window, Davis said.

Emergency responders transported the victims to an area hospital and their conditions are unknown, Davis said.
