31-year-old Stevens Point man gets 8 years in prison for child pornography possession

STEVENS POINT − A 31-year-old Stevens Point man was sentenced Thursday to eight years in prison for possession of child pornography.

Alex McDonald was convicted by a jury Feb. 6 and 7 of seven counts of child pornography possession, according to a Tuesday news release from Portage County District Attorney Cass Cousins. McDonald had pleaded not guilty to the charges prior to the trial.

Portage County Circuit Judge Patricia Baker ordered McDonald to serve eight years on extended supervision following his prison sentence.

Prior to sentencing, Cousins provided Baker with a memorandum outlining some details of the underlying circumstances in which the images McDonald possessed had been created, according to the news release. Some of the images were from the abuse of children throughout the county dating back as far as the early 2000s, Cousins said.

During the sentencing, Baker highlighted the fact each one of the pornographic images McDonald possessed was of a real person and that the victims, many of who are now adults, are revictimized every time someone downloads and views the images of their abuse, according to the news release.
