3 injured in late-night shooting in downtown Tampa: TPD

TAMPA, Fla. - Three people were injured in a shooting in downtown Tampa late Tuesday night, according to police.

According to the Tampa Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of Marion Street and Tyler Street at 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of shots fired.

They arrived to find a rifle and several spent casings. Two males suffered upper body trauma, and a woman suffered lower body trauma in the shooting.

Investigators say the shooting was related to a drug transaction. According to police, there was an altercation with unknown subjects that detectives are still working to identify.

The three victims all had non-life-threatening injuries and took themselves to a local hospital, according to officials.

Police say all the victims have prior criminal history that involved narcotics and robbery charges. According to TPD, the victims traveled from Orlando in a stolen Jeep.

Investigators say two guns were found inside the vehicle that was stolen from Orlando.

Officers say so far there's been no evidence indicating that the shooting was a random act of violence. According to police, victims of this incident do not have ties or are affiliated with any of the events that have recently happened in the city.

The investigation is ongoing and TPD has not released information about any arrests or charges.
