3 injured in 4-vehicle crash Monday on Interstate 90 near Austin

Apr. 23—WINDOM TOWNSHIP, Minn. — Three people were injured in a four-vehicle crash Monday, April 22, 2024, on Interstate 90 east of Austin.

A 2016 Ford Transit Van, 2022 Freightliner semi, 2014 Ford pickup and 2012 Chevrolet Equinox were eastbound on Interstate 90 near the Minnesota Highway 56 exit when the vehicles collided around 2 p.m., according to a Minnesota State Patrol crash report.

Three drivers, Hannah Raye Baumgartner, 31, of Austin, Randy Joseph Freund, 58, of Adams, and Ross Layne Lester, 53, of West Salem, Wisconsin, were transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi, Peter Anthony Norton, 56, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, was not injured.

The highway was closed for about an hour as emergency crews cleared the crash.

The Mower County Sheriff's Office, Austin Fire Department, Mayo Clinic Ambulance and Minnesota Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.
