29-year-old man jailed in fatal shooting of 37-year-old man in Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE — A 29-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a fatal shooting days earlier, Fort Pierce Police stated.

Antonio Stephon Watson, of Fort Pierce, was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail on charges including first-degree murder with a firearm and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a felon.

Watson was arrested in connection with the May 12 — Mother’s Day — fatal shooting of Levil Demetris Smith, 37, which happened in the area of North 24th Street and Canal Terrace.

Smith in April was arrested following an incident in which a 14-year-old youth sustained a gunshot wound to the back, officials said.

He was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail April 26 on charges including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon or ammunition by a felon, firing a weapon from a vehicle and five counts of aggravated child abuse, records show.

Police reported the homicide investigation still is active.
