28-year-old Bedford woman dies Monday in single-car crash on Ghent Road

Editor's note: The woman who died in Monday's crash was from Bedford. The Beacon Journal was previously told by the Akron Police Department that she was from Akron, which was incorrect.

A 28-year-old woman died Monday morning in a single-car crash in Fairlawn, according to a release from the Akron Police Department.

A Chevrolet Equinox was traveling southbound on Ghent Road around 6:25 a.m. when the driver wasn't able to follow the curve of the road and veered off the left side of the roadway, striking a concrete sign in the 300 block of Ghent. The vehicle caught on fire under the hood but it was quickly put out, police said.

The driver, a Bedford woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is being withheld pending further investigation and family notifications.

Police said neither speed nor alcohol appear to have been contributing factors in the incident.
