A department spokesperson confirmed officers responded to the scene of a shooting inside the 708 Bar and Grille on Poplar Avenue, where five men were injured and taken to the hospital. The five men ranged in age from 29-40 years old, and they were all patrons at the business.

HPD initially reported that officers and investigators were unable to learn anything from witnesses about the shooting suspect.

“In the following days, investigators learned an altercation occurred between a shooting suspect and one of the victims,” HPD said. “The suspect pulled a handgun and fired multiple times at one victim. Several rounds struck not only the first victim but four other people inside the club.”

Investigators were able to gather more info and evidence from surrounding surveillance footage and witnesses who eventually came forward days after the shooting.

HPD added that only one of the men is still in the hospital, while the other four were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Police are encouraging anyone with information about Malcom’s whereabouts to call HPD at 256-722-7100.
