The 2024 Kingsport Speedway season opens on Saturday

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) – NASCAR has left the Tri-Cities, at least until September, but there’s still plenty of racing to be done in the Model City beginning this weekend.

Saturday will mark the beginning of the 2024 season at Kingsport Speedway, as a list of local stock car drivers will look to tame “The Concrete Jungle”.

Racers in seven different classifications will compete in the 3/8th-mile oval beginning at 4 p.m., including local racing legend, Brad Teague. The longtime driver has nearly 300 NASCAR National Series starts in his time behind the wheel.

He will take the track against some weekend warriors, looking to make a name for themselves at the storied facility.

“The concrete jungle has a lot of excitement and it’s just a lot of people,” Teague said in a recent interview with News Channel 11. “A lot of people at short tracks and it’s really little good short track to run on.”

“I love the people, I love the fans,” two-time Late Model Stock champion Bruce Crumbley added. “Just being able to go do a hobby that you enjoy is great. The main thing really is being able to have people come in to stay and watch you – little kids be able to be able to teach them maybe something they can do in the future.”

The grandstands will open at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon with racing beginning at 4 p.m.
