2 women arrested after police assault in Springfield Township

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) – Two women face charges after a police officer was assaulted and a violent altercation took place at a Springfield Township Walmart on Saturday.

According to a press release from the Springfield Township Police Department, officers responded to a Walmart store on South Arlington Road where an altercation between two women escalated to threats being made and an assault.

According to the release, the two women involved are both employed by Walmart as online store shoppers.

One woman reported to police that she and Tonjreonna Mayhand were in a verbal argument earlier in the day at the store but eventually separated, according to the release.

Later in the day, tensions escalated between her and Mayhand when Mayhand returned to the store parking lot after making a delivery.

Witnessed by a store employee and another person at the scene, that is when Mayhand allegedly showed a handgun and made racially charged threats toward the other woman, according to the release.

A Lakemore officer who was on duty at the store was then alerted by a concerned citizen about the altercation in the parking lot, according to the release.

Lakemore Officer Stephen Cagaric approached Mayhand and an unidentified woman, who were inside a vehicle in the parking lot, and attempted to detain both of them for investigation.

That is when Michelle Wright tried to evade the officer’s commands and assaulted him, which led to her arrest, according to law enforcement.

According to the release, Wright was taken to a local hospital for evaluation after complaining about a shoulder injury.

During a search of Mayhand’s vehicle, a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun was found and confiscated as evidence of the aggravated menacing offense.

Mayhand was charged with aggravated menacing. She was issued a summons and released, pending further legal proceedings.

Wright was taken to the Summit County Jail where she was charged with Assault of a Police Officer.

According to the release, the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
