Two women impacted by recent restrictions on abortion will visit Arizona this week to campaign for President Joe Biden’s re-election.

Amanda Zurawski and Kaitlyn Joshua will appear in Phoenix and Tucson on Thursday, the Biden campaign said.

Zurawski nearly died while carrying a pregnancy in Texas under the state’s abortion ban. She was a plaintiff in Zurawski vs. Texas, the first patient-led case to challenge a state over abortion restrictions after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the landmark abortion case Roe vs. Wade.

Kaitlyn Joshua of Louisiana was turned away from two hospitals while bleeding and in pain without being made aware of her treatment options. Advocates said the state’s abortion restrictions created confusion about what medical services doctors could offer their patients.

The pair will reiterate Biden’s campaign trail reminder that Trump, by appointing justices who helped overturn Roe vs. Wade, helped enable the abortion restrictions in Arizona.

In a platform released in April, Trump called for state-level laws on the issue rather than a national one, though he has suggested his support for a national law in the past.

Democrats’ national campaign operations have targeted vulnerable Republicans on the topic, expecting it will boost Democratic turnout in this year’s elections.

The Lafayette Daily Advertiser’s Greg Hilburn and the Austin American-Statesman’s Bayliss Wagner contributed reporting.
