2 plead guilty to vehicular manslaughter for crash that killed teen girl

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Williamsville man and a Hamburg man pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter in connection with a crash that killed a 15-year-old girl last August, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.

Officials said just before midnight on August 20, a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Dylan Wiza of Williamsville was hit as he exited a parking lot to enter McKinley Drive. Justin Trane, 30, of Hamburg was traveling northbound on McKinley Parkway and struck Wiza’s vehicle.

Both drivers were taken to ECMC to be treated for their injuries. Trane was alone in his vehicle. Two passengers with Wiza, a 16-year-old female and a 15-year-old female, were transported to Oishei Children’s Hospital.

The 15-year-old was unresponsive when paramedics arrived and later died from her injuries. The 16-year-old was treated for a concussion and lacerations.

The investigation later determined that both parties were responsible for the collision. Under the influence of alcohol, Trane drove through a red light at the Quinby Drive intersection, while Wiza, under the influence of cannabis, traveled southwest to enter the intersection, crossing the northbound lane.

An investigation allegedly found suspected cannabis and drug paraphernalia inside of the vehicle driven by Wiza.

Trane, who pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular manslaughter, faces a maximum of seven years in prison while Wiza, who pleaded guilty to first-degree vehicular manslaughter, faces 15 years.

Both remain released on a $5,000 cash or bond bail.
