2 injured in Sioux Falls house fire Thursday night

Two people were unjured during a house fire Thursday night, according to a news release from Sioux Falls Fire Rescue.

Firefighters responded to the fire at about 10 p.m. in the 1000 block of S. Tabor Place. When they arrived, they reported smoke from an open door of a one-story, single-family home, and flames in the back of the home.

"It was reported that the home was not occupied, but crews worked simultaneously to extinguish the fire and aggressively searched for any unknown occupants," the release states.

Crews put the fire out in 10 minutes, but the area doesn't have fire hydrants, so firefighters had to rely on a water tendors, which are specialized vehicles that can haul large amounts of water to the scene as a precaution, the release states.

No first responders were injured. It's unclear to what extent the injuries of the other two people are as well as what may have caused the fire. Officials with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue were not immediately available to confirm more details.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with six fire trucks to address the incident, and 22 personnel, while Sioux Falls Air National Guard helped bring in one of the water tenders.

Other agencies included PatientCare EMS, which responded with two ambulances; the Sioux Falls Police Department, Metro Communications and Mid-American Energy.

The fire is still under investigation.
