2 new fishing docks being added at a popular riverside park near Tri-Cities

Fishing should be easier at the Hood Park ponds near Burbank with the construction of two new fishing docks.

The park, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is five miles from Pasco on the Snake River in Eastern Washington.

Now fishing at the ponds is difficult because of vegetation and the uneven terrain.

Union Sportsmen’s Alliance has donated two docks that meet standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act, making it easier for everyone to get to the edge of the ponds.

Construction starts Tuesday, April 2, says the Army Corps.

Initially holes will be dug for the docks’ supports and then forms will be placed to pour concrete. When the concrete dries, the docks will be installed.

Construction should finish in May.

At the same time work is being done to rehabilitate Hood Park’s large septic system.

The system is being retrofitted with a mechanical treatment system, including a 15,000-gallon aeration tank and a 3,000-gallon settling chamber. Bio-filtration of aeration exhaust also will be provided.

Construction on the septic system project also should be done in May.

The Hood Park campground and picnic area on the Snake River will open this year on May 23 and close after Labor Day.

The park has 46 recreational vehicle or tent sites, some with electricity. It also has a three-lane boat ramp, amphitheater, flush toilets, hot showers and dump area.

The day use area has picnic tables, a group shelter, swim beach, playground, horse-shoe pits, basketball court and nature trail.
