In Devon, United Kingdom, police are currently investigating the deaths of two dogs who are believed to have ingested poison while being walked on Dartmoor. The unfortunate events unfolded at Fingle Bridge, a scenic location managed by the National Trust. This series of suspected poisonings has raised concerns among local dog owners and prompted an official investigation by the authorities.

The two Spaniels, who fell victim to the suspected poisoning, were out for a walk with their owners on April 12, when they suddenly fell ill. Despite the prompt response of taking the dogs to the veterinarian, both pets succumbed to their illnesses. The initial examinations suggested poisoning as the cause of their rapid decline. What’s more, another dog walker reported her pet also exhibited signs of poisoning after a walk in the same area, leading to the animal’s placement in intensive care.

Lucy McCance shared her harrowing experience, recounting how her 3-year-old Springer Spaniel cross, Biggs, became critically ill overnight following the walk. Despite immediate veterinary care, Biggs suffered a fatal hemorrhage on April 15 — as per BBC. Surprisingly, similarities in the dogs’ bloodwork hinted at a poisonous substance they encountered during their walk.

The National Trust expressed its sorrow over the incidents and reassured the public that an exhaustive investigation was underway on its land. “We take this very seriously and our rangers are investigating and searching our land,” the organization said. So far, their searches have not yielded any results that could link to the poisonings.

Furthermore, the Devon and Cornwall Police are actively looking into the incidents. They stated that they were working “to understand the full circumstances” that led to the tragic deaths of the dogs. The investigation aims not only to find the cause but also to prevent further potential harm to other pets that frequent the popular walking area.
