2 charged after 3-year-old girl left unattended drowns in Darlington County creek

DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Two people are facing charges after a 3-year-old girl left unattended drowned Monday in a Darlington County creek, authorities said.

Christian Deon James and Nashanti McCullough were charged with homicide by child abuse. Both were booked into the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center and will await a bond hearing.

Deputies responded Monday to Badger Road in the Darlington area for a missing 3-year-old who had wandered off, the sheriff’s office said. After a lengthy search, she was found dead in a nearby creek.

James and McCullough, who were the girl’s caretakers, were responsible for her at the time she was reported missing and were charged after the girl was left unattended without proper supervision, an arrest warrant shows.

No other information was immediately available.
