Tauheed Epps, a.k.a. the artist, TV host, and restaurateur known as 2 Chainz, always wanted his proposal to longtime love Kesha Ward, the owner and founder of the pre-school A Gift From Heaven Academy, to be special. So when he was invited by Donatella Versace to the Met Gala for the first time this past May, he immediately thought their walk up the iconic red carpeted steps at the museum would be the perfect moment for him to pop the question. “Kesha got a custom Versace situation,” he remembers. “And all of the cameras were on us!”

Unlike her Grammy Award-winning husband, who clearly has a flair for the dramatic—it’s been reported that 2 Chainz also popped the question at the BET Awards in 2013—Kesha is more of an introvert. “I’m pretty private with our family, but Tauheed convinced me to step out for the Met Gala because it’s such a big event and an honor to be invited,” says Kesha, who has three children (Heaven, Harmony, and Halo) with the rap star. “I was truly shocked that this is what he had planned though!”

Since Versace was an integral part of their proposal, marrying at Miami’s Villa Casa Casuarina, formerly known as the Versace Mansion, felt only fitting. “Plus, Miami is our second home outside of Atlanta,” 2 Chainz explains. “I’m the drench god so the wedding had to be classy, but [was] definitely going to have some flash.”

“I know Tauheed has exotic taste, so I let him take the reins of the wedding [planning], but I gave him some guidance on what I was looking for,” says Kesha. Their goal was to keep it small, intimate, and classic. They worked with Roxanne Chipman and Tauheed’s management company Street Execs on planning, and Corinne and the team at Be Social Events for the decor and production.

On 2 Chainz’s show Most Expensivest, where he shows viewers how the top 1-percent spend their cash, he interviewed a custom suit tailor in New York City named David Lance. “I had to call my guy to get a custom tux for the wedding to match my style. Jewelry-wise, I kept it low key. For the reception, I wore Miguel Wilson Collection, a dope designer out of Atlanta.”

Kesha chose a strapless wedding dress by Gaila Lahav. “A stylist friend helped me search and find this dress which, for me, was the perfect style and fit,” she says. “Classic and modern—definitely what I was looking for on the big day.”

The groomsmen were in “fly shit only!” according to 2 Chainz. This meant their tuxedos were also by Miguel Wilson Collection. “I got my brother Lil Wayne to wear a tux!” 2 Chainz laughs.

“What he said,” Kesha deadpans.

Even though the ceremony took place in one of the most over the top locations—on a glass covering atop the pool at the former Versace mansion—the room was brimming with familial warmth, as the couple was surrounded by family and longtime friends including Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. “We kept it short and sweet so we could get straight to the party,” Kesha says.

After the service, everyone made their way to the Temple House for the reception. “We were the king and queen,” says 2 Chainz. “It was dope. Everyone was vibing, having a good time. Toasts were rolling from our closest friends and my team.”

The newlyweds had their first dance to Sade’s “No Ordinary Love,” before cutting into their “most expensivest” wedding cake by Cake Boss and partying all night. “Seeing our entire family in one room, from all over the country—it was truly a blessing to be able to bring everyone together,” says the bride.

Post-reception, everyone hit the club. “It’s the right thing to do when you’re in Miami,” 2 Chainz jokes. Once they fully recovered from the wedding weekend, the couple plans to go on a honeymoon, but “it’s top secret," says Kesha. “I’m surprising my guy soon!”
