2 arrested for shoplifting from DICK’S Sporting Goods in Clovis

CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A woman and a man were arrested after allegedly attempting to commit grand theft at a store in Clovis, the Clovis Police Department said on Monday.

Officers say right after 6:30 p.m. they responded to the DICK’S Sporting Goods located in Clovis regarding shoplifting of over $950 worth of apparel, shoes, and other items.

Upon arrival, police say Loss Prevention employees advised officers that the suspects were leaving the store with several items they failed to pay for. Police located the suspect’s vehicle in the area and attempted to enforce a traffic stop, but the suspects failed to do so. Officers turned on their lights and a pursuit was initiated.

According to Clovis PD, California Highway Patrol helicopters assisted during the vehicle pursuit. Officers attempted to deploy spike strips but the suspect was sworn out of the way. Officers were able to use a pursuit intervention technique and they were able to take both suspects into custody at Fowler and Herndon Avenues.

Officers say the suspects are believed to be from neighboring counties. Police say the suspects have been identified as 35-year-old Nicole Vargas and 48-year-old Francisco Ruiz, both from the Turlock area. They were arrested under suspicion of felony evading charges, grand theft, and conspiracy to commit theft.

Detectives say all the merchandise has been recovered.
