2 Abilene residents dead, 1 hospitalized after single-car crash

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Two 18-year-old Abilene residents have died following a fatal collision involving three people that occurred in the morning of Thursday, March 21.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at 7:20 a.m. in Eastland County on Interstate Highway 20, 2.7 miles east of Ranger, Texas.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling west in the left lane on IH-20 at the 357-mile post when the driver steered off the left side of the roadway into the center median.  The vehicle continued traveling in the center median and vaulted into Russell Creek, where it landed on its front. This partially ejected the front right passenger and totally ejected the back seat passenger from the vehicle.

The two occupants who died during the crash have been identified as Brandon Tyler Woods and Annabelle Neely. Both were pronounced at the scene of the crash on at 7:30 a.m. by Justice of the Peace Jon Glenn.

The third occupant of the vehicle, 19-year-old Kaiden Nathaniel Newby, was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas, with incapacitating injuries, according to TxDOT.

The weather was cloudy, the road conditions were wet and the posted speed limit was 75 mph at the time of the collision. Woods and Neely were wearing seatbelts during the crash, while Newby wasn’t.
