15-year-old shot near Cleveland elementary school

CLEVELAND (WJW) – The Cleveland Division of Police is investigating a Thursday morning shooting near an elementary school.

According to police, at about 10:30 a.m., a 15-year-old was shot near East 30th Street and Cedar Avenue.

Victims identified in lengthy, deadly standoff

The scene is just down the street from Marion-Sterling Elementary School.

The victim was an eighth-grader at the school who had left the school with his aunt at about 10:30 a.m., according to a Thursday afternoon statement from the school district. He was then attacked with a firearm in a vacant field near the school, school officials said.

Police said the teen was taken to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in serious condition. He is in currently in stable condition, according to school officials.

District security officers have leads on possible suspects and have shared that information with Cleveland police, who are now actively investigating, according to the statement.
