15-year-old girl killed in Southeast DC shooting identified

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department has identified the teen girl who was killed in a shooting in Southeast D.C. on Sunday morning.

MPD said that at about 10:50 p.m., they were in the 2400 block of Elvans Road when they heard gunshots.

While police were investigating, they found a teen girl who had been shot inside an apartment building. She died at the scene.

Police determined that the suspects fired shots, from a car, at people who were outside.

After the gunshots, the victim ran inside the building where she was found.

The victim was identified as 15-year-old Niomi Russell of Northwest.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
