1) When Kathie Lee Gifford asked Martin Short about his (dead) wife
In a promotional interview for Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted in 2012, Kathie Lee asked Martin about his wife of 36 years. Martin gushed that they were still "madly in love." Kathie Lee didn't realize that Martin's wife had actually passed away two years before from ovarian cancer. Yikes.
Martin, such a professional, played it cool for the entire interview. Kathie Lee later apologized for the incident, saying "Martin just told me... his beautiful, precious wife Nancy did pass away. My apologies to him and his family for not realizing that." In a later interview, Martin said Kathie was a fabulous person who just didn't have the information.
