New 139th District Rep. Olsommer (R-Pike/Wayne) sworn in after special election

State Rep. Jeff Olsommer (R-Pike/Wayne), who was chosen by 139th District voters in the special election April 23 to fill the remainder of the term of former Rep. Joe Adams, was sworn into office Tuesday, May 21.

Olsommer is the Republican nominee in the general election on Nov. 5 and faces Democratic nominee Robin Skibber for a two-year term. He is a resident of Sterling, Wayne County.

“I’m ready to get to work for the citizens of the 139th Legislative District,” Olsommer said in a press release. “I’m grateful to the folks back home who sent me here and it is a privilege to represent them.”

The district office is still located near Hawley at 2523 Route 6, Suite 2, in the Lake Wallenpaupack area. Residents of the 139th District may stop by Olsommer’s office and receive assistance with any state-related matters. As the press releases states, these services include vehicle registrations, driver’s license renewals and special tags, property tax/rent rebate applications, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) applications, birth certificate and death record applications and more.

Shortly after Olsommer took the oath of office, he made his first official act. He signed the discharge resolution to get House Bill 891 out of the House State Government Committee.

The release states that House Bill 891 would allow voters to decide if the Pennsylvania Constitution should be amended to require identification each time someone votes. Currently, identification is only required the first time you vote in a new location.

The total number of signatures now stands at 101, which includes 100 Republicans and one Democrat. According to House operating rules, for a discharge resolution to move a bill from a committee to the House, 25 members from each party must sign the petition, regardless of the total number of signees.
