13-year-old arrested after Arkport school lockdown

ARKPORT, N.Y. (WETM) — A 13-year-old was charged with a felony after police say a threat was made to the Arkport Central School District on Thursday, prompting a lockdown.

According to New York State Police, around 2:33 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, troopers were sent to the Arkport Central School for the report of a threat made on social media.

Police said that a 13-year-old male suspect was located and taken into custody and charged with Making a terroristic threat, a class D felony. The child was processed and released on a Family Court Appearance Ticket to be seen by Steuben County Probation on March 14.

In a statement from Superintendent of Schools Jesse Harper, no threat to the school was found by police, and students were dismissed after the lockdown, following all safety measures.

Harper commended students and staff for their cooperation during the lockdown and explained to families to talk to students about the day and these types of situations. She said that resources would be available for students if needed.

Harper added that the district takes any threat seriously and that it’s a top priority to make a safe learning environment for the entire community
