12 goats stolen from local family-owned dairy farm

A family-owned dairy farm in Ontario is distraught after they had a dozen goats stolen from them early Monday morning.

According to an Instagram post from Drake Family Farms California, the thief or thieves cut their fence and stole 12 goats, including:

  • 7 pregnant goats

  • 1 goat that gave birth 1-2 hours before being stolen

  • 1 goat that gave birth within 24 hours of being stolen

  • 3 baby goats

The two kids the goat that had given birth to most recently were not stolen, the farm said, adding that they are “doing well” after being bottle fed.

The goat who had given birth within 24 hours of being stolen had pregnancy toxemia.

“The owner and veterinarian was treating her…she needed her Dextrose [Tuesday] morning and is probably dead now,” the farm’s Instagram post said.

The farm is looking through security footage and has notified local authorities.

The stolen goats are Saanen, Alpine, and Nubian goats. They are all tattooed and are wearing red, blue or chain collars, Drake Family Farms California said.

The farm is offering a $2,500 reward to anyone with information on the goats’ whereabouts.

No description of a suspect or suspects has been released.

As of Tuesday night, the goats had not been found, a separate post indicated.
