11 spring cleaning hacks from Pinterest that are legit super useful

Pinterest is our first stop when looking for anything and everything trendy and inventive. Street style advice, beauty tips, wedding inspiration, cool nail polish colors, DIY baking inspo; it’s all there! Although a few (read: many, *many*) hours spent on Pinterest may translate as “procrastination” to much of the outside world, ~we~ know just how useful a good Pinterest board can be.

Case in point: turning to Pinterest to learn a few ~out-of-this-world~ spring cleaning hacks.

This being the prime of spring cleaning season, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to consult the Pinterest pros on a few tidiness tips. And in addition to just cleaning up, we also found a few around-the-house hacks that are going to make our lives infinitely easier.

Prepare for spring cleaning to never be the same again!

1. Make your cookie sheet look brand spanking new

All you’ve got to do is mix a dash of hydrogen peroxide with a pinch of baking soda, cover your cookie sheet, and let it sit for an hour or two. When you come back, simply wipe the concoction off to reveal your good-as-new-pan.

Side note: Why does something like this not exist for skin care?!

2. No-scrub stove burner cleaning

No elbow grease necessary! Just take the burners off and plop them individually into oversized plastic bags, and enough ammonia to cover the burner. Let sit for 24 hours, then remove the burner from the bag and rinse off with water to gid rid of any residue, and voila!

3. Polish the kitchen sink

This is a simple, three-step process.

First: clean the sink by creating a paste from warm water and baking soda, gently scrubbing to cover the sink. Allow the paste to dry, then wipe off with a wet cloth. Second: Polish the sink by rubbing a tablespoon of flour into the dry sink, then wiping to remove. Third: Use a few drops of baby oil to shine the surface, and your job is done.

Oh, and FYI: remove any rust or water spots by rubbing a splash of vinegar on them.

4. Make your mattress smell like new

Vanquish any nastiness in your mattress by sprinkling with baking soda, adding a few drops of essential oil here and there (like lavender), then vacuuming after 10 minutes. Easy, and smells like new!

5. Effectively clean your dishwasher

Nope, this is not an oxymoron. Your dishwasher does, in fact, need its own bath from time to time.

To do this, place a dishwasher-safe cup full of vinegar right-side-up on the top rack, and turn on the dishwasher to the hottest setting (don’t add soap). After the cycle runs, sprinkle baking soda across the bottom on the drain, and run for another short, hot cycle, to further deodorize and remove any stains.

6. Make an electric stove sparkle

Drizzle your glass stove top with dish-washing soap, sprinkle it over with baking soda, then gently scrub. Use a damp paper towel to wipe off the mixture and reveal your glistening stove top.

7. Shine chrome bathroom fixtures

This trick is no lemon! (Pun totally intended). Just rub some lemon juice on fixtures, wiping off any residue, and bam!

8. Clean & reseason a rusty cast iron pan

While you can’t run these babies through the dishwasher, you can do *this.*

Dip a damp cloth in Kosher salt and use it to scrub off any rust, rinse the pan in hot water, then pat to dry. Next, leave the pan on a hot stove to allow the moisture to evaporate, and while on the stove, pour on a splash of canola oil. Wearing oven mitts, use a dish rag to rub in the oil. Afterward, remove the pan from the stove and plop on a cookie sheet and into the oven to bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour. Make sure to place it upside down, to allow any excess oil to drip off.

9. Use an old wine rack for bathroom towel storage

This one is a no-brainer! Just hang the wine rack in the bathroom and neatly wrap the towels to fit.

10. Make your own double hangers

This is one of those duh-moment inventions we ~wish~ we’d thought of ourselves. Just use old soda can tabs to link up hangers for this easy spring cleaning closet solution.

11. Make your home smell like spring

A freshly cleaned house deserves to *smell* clean, too. While you’re busy cleaning away, put a pot of fresh-sliced lemons and rosemary sprigs in some water, and turn on a low, simmering heat. In no time, your casa will smell like a spa.
