$10K worth of cocaine seized after crash

HONESDALE, WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— State police say they seized $10,000 worth of cocaine after a driver, allegedly under the influence of several drugs, crashed in Wayne County.

On Wednesday, Pennsylvania State Police announced Joan Mejia, from Carbondale, was charged with driving under the influence and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute following a crash back in January.

According to investigators, Mejia was driving through Waymart Borough on January 31 when his car overturned several times and crashed.

Mejia was transported to the hospital where troopers would later learn that he was under the influence of cocaine, fentanyl, and marijuana when he crashed.

As state police investigated the scene of the crash, they say they found a large bag of cocaine worth about $10,000.

Mejia is being held in the Lackawanna County jail on unrelated charges. He is being held on $10,000 bail.
