100 crying babies face off at annual sumo festival

STORY: Sumo wrestlers who belonged to the Nihon University’s sumo club rocked babies and organisers wore colorful masks of foxes and demons in an attempt to make babies cry.

They were competing over which baby would cry first.

The traditional “Crying Sumo” event started in 1991 to encourage the health and wellbeing of children.

Around 100 babies joined the event this year.
