10-year-old, 2 teens airlifted to hospitals after gunshots fired into Sampson County home, deputies say

CLINTON, N.C. (WNCN) — A 10-year-old and two teenagers were shot early Sunday morning in Sampson County, according to deputies.

On Sunday shortly before 2:15 a.m., Sampson County EMS and deputies with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to multiple gunshot victims in the 80 block of Lockamy Road outside of Clinton.

At the scene, first responders found a 10-year-old, an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old, who all had gunshot wounds.

CBS 17 crews counted 30 bullet holes in the home, which was hit by a barrage of gunfire early Sunday morning.

“We heard gunfire, sounded like an automatic, then followed by some more trailing gunfire,” BJ Lockamy-Bass told CBS 17 crews Sunday afternoon.

The preliminary investigation revealed that one or more suspects stood outside the residence and opened fire into the mobile home.

No suspect information or motive has been identified.

The injured victims were airlifted to regional hospitals with critical injuries.

The home that was shot is located on land owned by the Lockamy family.

Lockamy-Bass said people were shocked by the shooting that appeared to target the family.

“The kids are in the school district. All our kids go to school together,” Lockamy-Bass said. “So, this is not something that happens in their neighborhood.”

Sampson County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they are concerned they don’t have much information about what led to the shooting.

“When you look at a 10-year-old child, their innocence has been taken from them,” said Capt. Eric Pope of the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office.

“Like I said, it should thoroughly tick people off in this country, in this state, and in this community,” he added.

The incident is under investigation and no other information was available.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office at 910-592-4141.
