A 1-year-old Minnesota boy died this week after he fell from a hotel window in South Dakota.

Madden Hein was critically injured and died on April 15, two days after he fell from the third floor of the Club House Hotel & Suites in Sioux Falls, The Star Tribune reported.

Sioux Falls Police public information officer Sam Clemens told The Star Tribune, the Sioux Falls Argus Leader and CBS affiliate KELO that while an investigation is ongoing, the fall appears to be an accident.

"Everything just points to a tragic event," he told the Sioux Falls Argus Leader.

Clemens told the outlet that nearby witnesses with medical training provided Madden with treatment before he was hospitalized. At the time, he had a pulse but was unresponsive.

PEOPLE has reached out to Clemens for comment.

Hein's parents said in an April 16 Facebook post that they are "having a hard time processing this all" and that their son's organs will be donated.
