1 dead after Amtrak train struck SUV in Round Rock

ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — One person is dead after police said an Amtrak train struck an SUV Wednesday morning in Round Rock.

The Round Rock Police Department previously shut down the Interstate 35 frontage roads on both the northbound and southbound sides near McNeil Road to further investigate. However, police later said the roads have now reopened.

In a statement Wednesday afternoon, a spokesperson for Amtrak said its train bound for Chicago from San Antonio “came into contact with a vehicle obstructing the tracks” at about 10:58 a.m. The train had 46 passengers onboard at the time, but none of them got hurt during the collision.

“Amtrak Police are working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident. The train was delayed about four hours before continuing north,” the Amtrak spokesperson said.
