1 dead after accident near DeWitt

One person is dead after a vehicle accident east of DeWitt Sunday night.

The Clinton County Communications Center received a 911 call about a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 330th Avenue and Hwy 30 east of DeWitt on May 5 at about 8:52 p.m. When first responders arrived, they found a 2013 Toyota Prius and a 2008 Pontiac Vibe in the median, west of the intersection.

A preliminary investigation showed that the Vibe was driving westbound on Hwy 30 and the Prius was turning eastbound onto Hwy 30 when the incident occurred. The driver and passenger of the Prius and the driver of the Vibe were taken to Mercy North Hospital in Clinton. The occupants of the Prius were taken to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, where the driver later died.

The driver’s identity is being withheld pending family notification. The accident remains under investigation by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
