1 dead, 9 others injured in hit-and-run crash in Englewood

CHICAGO — A person is dead, and nine others are injured in a hit and run crash in Englewood Friday night, police said.

According to police, a car was travelling at a high speed in the 1600 block of West 59th Street around 9:30 p.m. Friday night when it struck two cars in the intersection.

The driver of the speeding vehicle then exited the car and fled the scene. A male passenger in the speeding vehicle who was in his 20s sustained blunt force trauma to the body and was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 25-year-old woman in the speeding vehicle sustained blunt force trauma to the body and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said a 15-year-old girl sustained a spinal fracture and is at Comer Children Hospital in critical condition. Another 16-year-old teen sustained a femur fracture and was transported to Comers Children Hospital where she is listed in good condition.

The vehicle was reportedly stolen, and firearms were recovered.

A total of six individuals from the other vehicles were taken to local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
